Woman robber who disguised as activist arrested for stealing
NEW DELHI: A woman who used to pose as a social activist and would rob several people by offering them rides in autos, and then after threatening them with filing a molestation case has been arrested by the Delhi Police. The woman, identified as the kingpin of the gang, was arrested along with three of her associates from Trilokpuri area of East Delhi.
The group came under the police radar after a spate of nigh time robberies were reported in the media. Many of the cases were pertaining to the East District; hence, the police formed a team to investigate such incidents.
Many of the thefts had a similar pattern as several people had reported that they were robbed inside autos. The police soon studied the modus operandi of the gang and very soon managed to zero in on the gang, when they received specific inputs on Sunday that the gang members would come near Trilokpuri area. The team soon laid a trap and two women and two men were arrested from the spot.
The police had interrogated the group and the woman had confessed to her involvement in the crime. It was found that the main accused would pose as social activist and would also visit the local police stations in East District and ask the police for help in various occasions. Further, during the night, she would target lonely passengers who would come from outside Delhi.
She would offer them rides while she and the gang members would sit inside an auto. The accused would later be threatened with a molestation case and would be robbed of his belongings.
“She had confessed to her involvement in the crimes and we have managed to solve five cases in East District. We believe that more cases will soon surface in other districts as well. Further investigation is underway,” said a senior police official.
