NEW DELHI: After a brief period of peace in Outer Delhi’s Najafgarh area, hitherto plagued by revenge killings resulting in gang wars, a fresh case of suspected revenge killing has come to light, as notorious gangster, Manjeet Mahal’s father, Sri Kishan (71) was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside his home in Mitraon Village.

The incident took place on Sunday morning when Kishan had come out of his house to buy vegetables. He was later rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Police are yet to trace the whereabouts of the accused.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), Rishi Pal, “We had received information in the morning around 11:24 am that Manjeet Mahal’s father, Kishan, was shot outside his house. A team had been deputed to the spot to inquire into the incident”.

Outside Kishan’s house, the residents from local villages had come to offer their condolences. One of them told the Millennium Post, “It took place at around 10:30 am. Kishan wanted to buy some vegetables. They usually don’t get out of their homes to buy vegetables, but today he decided to and they killed him.”

Kishan used to live with his wife in their ancestral house in Mitraon village. He has three daughters and two sons. His infamous son Manjeet Mahal was arrested last year by Special Cell team last year for his role in the killing of EX-MLA, Najafgarh, Bharat Singh, who was shot at while attending a social function.

His other son, Sanjay, was in a somber mood and did not speak to the media. His friend Raju, however, said that Kishan was shot by a group who were sitting inside a Scorpio car, adding that the family had not received any threats in the past. “We just know that he got out of the house and in the meantime, they came outside and shot him. He had never been attacked in the past and they never received threats,” said Raju. The residents had rushed Kishan to Rao Tula Ram (RTR) hospital. He had been shot at multiple times in the head and chest. He was declared brought dead on arrival.

The police are currently going through the CCTV footage of the camera mounted at the entrance of the house. They have so far remained tight lipped about the case and are questioning the eye witnesses in the case. “We are investigating the case and are on the lookout for the Scorpio car. We believe that 4-5 people may be involved in the case. The number plates have been traced to Haryana. Some eye witnesses are also being questioned in the matter,” said a senior police official.
