NEW DELHI: Women Helpline 181 functioning under the aegis of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) came to the rescue of an 85-year-old senior citizen who went missing on Monday afternoon.

The lady, Ratno Devi (name changed), a resident of Chattarpur left her place for an afternoon walk but was not able to make her way back home.

Ratno Devi’s son and other relatives after trying to trace her for hours sought help from the Mehrauli police and register a missing complaint.

Meanwhile, in the evening, a pedestrian called up 181 and informed about a lady who was roaming confused and digressed in his area. 181 immediately sent a mobile helpline (MHL) counsellor to assist the lady at the location mentioned by the complainant.

The MHL counsellor was provided with the necessary details which helped her track the location of the complainant who till then comforted the lady and kept complete care of her safety.

After a deep and lengthy conversation with the old woman, the counsellor was able to figure out her name but the lady was not able to recall her address.

Later, the MHL counsellor took the lady to the nearby police station where the women’s family was fortunately present seeking help from the police officials in finding her. Ratno Devi recognised her family as soon as she entered the police station.

181 is successful in proving its efficiency when it comes to safety and helping women of the city and this was yet another case.
