- RAHUL SINGH

GHAZIABAD: On Tuesday, a man from Bareilly, Uttar Pradeshs has surrendered himself at the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Ghaziabad saying that he was driving the speeding Audi that collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw killing four people last week.

Ishaaq Ahmad, from Labhera village under Hafizganj police station area of Bareilly, submitted his surrender application through his lawyer on Monday. On Tuesday afternoon, the accused appeared before the court claiming that he was driving Audi Q7 and wished to surrender and submit a bail application.

After an investigation, police claimed that the Audi Q7 car was registered on the name of Manish Rawat, a doctor with Safdarjung Hospital’s neurology department in Delhi. Rawat, the owner of the car is still absconding. However, a couple of days into the investigation, police failed to reach Rawat, who could have given clues about the occupants of the car on the night of the incident.

“Following the incident, an FIR was registered against unidentified persons under Sections 279, 304A and 427 of the Indian Penal Code at Indirapuram Police Station. As the accused has surrendered himself before the court, the sus- picion of car owner is over. However, we will carry on further investigations,” said P K Tripathi, Station House Officer, Indirapuram Police Station.

Another incident occurred on the same day when a threeyear-old boy was crushed to death after falling under the rear tyre of a reversing Indica Vista car outside ABC Playway school in Rajendra Nagar, Ghaziabad. It’s praiseworthy that the police arrested the driver just three hours after the incident. Here the question arises that even without knowing the registration number of the Indica car that fled after the incident, the police managed to arrest the driver just three hours after the accident.
