17-year-old girl dies after being hit by tractor in Swaroop Nagar

NEW DELHI: A 17-yearold girl was crushed to death when she was hit by a tractor laden with bricks near her house in North-west Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, the deceased, Khushboo, a Class XI student in a government school in Bhalswa Dairy was going to school with her friends when a tractor carrying constructi­on material hit her. The driver of the errant vehicle fled the spot.

“The tractor driver has been identified, we have formed several police teams to nab the accused.

The owner was identified on the basis of registrati­on number of the tractor. He was questioned about the driver of the tractor. The vehicle has also been impounded,” said a senior police official.

The incident took place at around 6.45 am at the Burari Road outside the D1 block, JJ colony in Swaroop Nagar area when Khushboo, a student of Class XI was going to school to attend a practical of Home Science. After hitting Khushboo, the errant driver allegedly dragged the girl under the wheels of the killer vehicle for a few metres and parked the vehicle and managed to escape from the spot.

While he was bleeding profusely on the road, one of the friends informed the family who in turn took the victim to Babu Jag Jivan Ram hospital where she was declared brought dead. Her body was handed over to her family after her post-mortem.

According to the senior police officers of the Northwest district, police have registered a case under Section 304A and 279 of the Indian Penal Code at the Swaroop Nagar police station.
