GOLD FINANCE FIRM IN GGN ROBBED

- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: In a daring incident, a group of seven-eight armed men looted a branch of a private gold financer in the heart of Gurugram and escaped in broad daylight.

While Gurugram Police have not confirmed the exact quantity, it is estimated that gold weighing around 25-30 kg has been stolen from the office of Manappuram Gold Loan located on New Railway Road in Gurugram. What makes the heist more intriguing is that it was committed in the main city centre during the day, a time when the area witnesses heavy movement of people.

The robbery is expected to have occurred around noon. Based on eyewitness accounts, the robbers entered the premises of the gold finance company around 11 am. After interacting with the employees for some time, the armed robbers held the employees and customers hostage and carried out the heist.

In the process, two employ- ees of the branch, namely Mukesh and Rinku were injured by the burglars. Some customers also sustained injuries when they were manhandled by the culprits.

Gurugram Police, meanwhile, managed to get the video grab of one of the robbers through CCTV camera footage. However, they are yet to make any arrests in the incident. Sources in the police have stated that the image of the robber captured in the CCTV camera will give a clue to arrest the gang involved.

According to Pankaj Singla, who works in the same complex where the branch of the finance company is located, this is the second time the branch has been looted.

“Most of us did not realise what happened. It was only later that we realised that a robbery took place. A robbery took place in the branch about two years ago too,” said Singla.

Senior level officers, including Gurugram Police Commissioner Sandip Khirwar, visited the spot. “A team has been formed to catch the burglars. We will soon make headway in the case,” said Khirwar.

Taking into cognisance the vast amount of gold stolen, the company issued a statement saying: “We confirm that gold jewellery kept in the branch is fully insured and that the affected customers will not be put to loss on this account.”
