NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police crime data on the most vulnerable sections of society — senior citizens, children and women — shows that there is still lot to be done in terms of providing security to them.

In an important development, the Delhi Police found no specific gang involved in kidnapping of children in the national Capital. The cops say that the analysis of the reasons behind the missing children is diverse. Analysis of reasons behind the missing children done by Crime Branch shows that most of the children go missing due to being scolded by parents, academic pressure, loosing way or elopement.

“Our survey also found that no organised gang is involved in child begging at various important crossings,” say Taj Hasan, Special Commissioner of Police.

The survey was conducted by the Crime Branch at various important crossings of the Capital to see if any gang is involved and if children begging is forceful.

However, out of 149 cases registered for crimes against senior citizens, cops could solve only 76. In 2016, despite the cops taking measures to provide security to the senior citizens, it seems that the data has a different story to tell.

A total of 149 cases were reported for crimes against senior citizens but the Delhi Police could solve only 76 of them. That means 49 per cent cases of the total reported cases have remained unsolved.

However, the cops were able to solve 16 cases of murders of senior citizens out of the reported 19. Under the attempt to murder cases, cops have a good record and out of eight cases reported, only one remains unsolved. But the data shows a dismal picture of cops being able to solve only 38 cases of robbery out of the 91 reported. In other crimes against senior citizens, the cops could solve only 15 of the 31 reported cases.

2,155 cases of rapes were reported by women in 2016.

The analysis of data of crimes against women shows that 2,155 cases of rapes were reported last year. Analysis of the rape cases reveals that 96.43 percent rapes were committed by persons known to the victims or her family. The data reveals that only 3.57 percent of cases of rape were committed by strangers.

4,165 cases of molestation were reported in 2016. Out of these, the cops were able to solve 3,033 cases, whereas, 27 percent are still unsolved.
