FIR against Mahagun builder’s Director, 2 others after worker falls to death
THE 19-YEAR-OLD WORKER FELL OFF THE 18TH FLOOR OF THE UNDER-CONSTRUCTION BUILDING, OTHERS COMPLAIN OF LACK OF SAFETY MEASURES FOR LABOURERS
GREATER NOIDA: An FIR has been registered against three persons including the Director, Project Manager and contractor of the builder’s group Mahagun India after the death of a 19-year-old worker who fell off from the 18th floor of an ongoing construction project in Greater Noida West.
Bishan, who hailed from Pokharia village of Bihar, was working on the 18th floor and died on the spot after he fell from such a height. The incident has brought to the fore the vulnerability of construction workers in the absence of safety measures.
Workers at the construction site said there are no proper safety measures taken up by the builder and the contractor to protect the workers in case of any untoward accident. The victim was neither wearing a helmet nor a safety belt when he fell down, leading to his death.
Workers who were present on the same site said: “If proper precautions were taken up by the builder, the lives of all three workers could have been saved.” Following the incident, an FIR has been registered in Bisrakh police station against Director Amit Jain, Project Manager Sanjay and the contractor Kuldeep Sharma. Vinod Pandey, Station House Officer, Bisrakh police station told Millennium
Post: “In the past ten days, this is the third incident of worker’s death on the same site of Mahagun. Sheer negligence by the builder in adopting the safety measures for the workers can be clearly seen. We have registered an FIR against all these three people under Section 304A, IPC. Strict actions will be taken.” Workers engaged at various construction sites across the Greater Noida West are made to work without basic equipment and lack of proper supervision. One can see labourers’ children playing at these sites, also exposing them to life-threatening hazards. Besides, they are not provided daycare facilities while their parents work at the sites. Sincere steps should be taken up by the administration if any such case is reported to them.
