Residents stage protest against builder’s failure to provide promised amenities

- RAHUL SINGH

GREATER NOIDA: Scores of residents staged a protest on Sunday against the alleged failure of a builder to provide basic amenities in its residential project in Greater Noida West. The protest was undertaken under the banner of Noida Extension Flat Owner’s Main Association (NEFOMA). Home buyers claimed that even after paying maintenance charge of two years in advance, they are facing hardships due to builder’s negligence.

Launched in 2010 by Galaxy Builder, the project, Galaxy North Avenue in Gaur City, Greater Noida West, got completed in 2016. Presently, around 300 families have shifted to the housing complex. However, the protesters said that the construction work which is still going on in couple of towers is troubling them and the builder’s negligence is posing a threat to their children who play in the society campus.

“I got the possession of my flat in March 2016 and made a payment of Rs 49,000 as two years’ maintenance charge in advance. We were expecting the builder to deliver us amenities as per the promise but nothing has happened. In the beginning, we were assured that facilities such as security, CCTV cameras, swimming pool and club house will be provided to the residents but delay of nearly a year forced us to stage a protest against the builder.

We also tried to meet the builder several times but the officials claimed that he is out of India.

The dust coming out of the construction work, which is still going on in couple of towers of the project, is troubling us.” said Nitin Rana, one of the residents of the society.

Anu Khan, President and Founder, NEFOMA, who is leading the protest, said “Around 70 families were present in the protest on Sunday morning. The protesters, including women, children and senior citizens, held placards and raised slogans against the builder. The authority seems to be working in collusion with the builders. We request CREDAI to come forward and take legal action against such builders.”

The condition of home buyers in Greater Noida West is getting worst. More than two lakh of home buyers are fighting to get the possession of their flats while those who have got it, are struggling with the negligence of the builders. The poor construction quality and lack of basic amenities are their main complaints as many builders in the area have somehow managed to give the possession but the quality of construction and non-compliance of facilities to be provided to the residents is a common problem.
