- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: Amid heavy security presence in Gurugram on Sunday, the Jat leaders observed “Balidaan divas”, a day to honour the Jat protestors who had died a year ago in the violent protests across Haryana. While the Jat leaders had assured to hold peaceful protests, the government machinery did not take any chances and deployed high number of police officials along the border of Gurugram with Jhajjar and Rewari. Not only were the police officials but also various senior government officials constantly monitored the situation and were in touch with the Jat leaders.

A massive rally was organised by “Akhil Bhartiya Jat Arakshan Samiti” in Daultabad village which is situated along the Dwarka expressway.

The Jat leaders again pressed on their main demands of reservation under the OBC category.

Besides reservation, the Jat leaders have also demanded the withdrawal of legal cases against the protestors and government jobs for those who had been injured in the protests of 2016.

Even as Jat leaders have decided of not holding their protests in Gurugram district, 19 districts of Haryana are witnessing Jat protests for more than 20 days.

Most of the city government machinery at present is being utilised by the State government for keeping the protests peaceful.

Various Jat leaders have now warned that if their main demands are not met, they will intensify their protests further.
