The ruling Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi on Monday started work for laying sewer lines in slums areas of the national Capital. The work has been started from Patparganj Assembly constituency, from where Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was elected.

The work for laying sewer lines in Jawahar mohalla, Shastri mohalla, Mahatma Gandhi camp, Khokha Patri camp and Ram Prasad Bismil camp will also begin shortly, informed a communiqué. The project was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Water minister Kapil Mishra on Monday.

In a tweet on Monday, Sisodia, the Patparganj MLA, said: “Initiated work of laying sewer lines in five slums of my Patparganj Assembly area.”

Further, taking a dig at Congress, Sisodia said that they had been playing politics on slums for a very long time. “Congress has never laid sever lines in slums even today. It’s first time that slum areas in Delhi are going to have sewer lines now,” Sisodia said.

Addressing the crowd during the inauguration programme occasion, Water Minister Kapil Mishra said there were no sewer lines for the past 20-30 years, but now the work has begun. “How can it be possible? Can the government not do this? This was not done because of politics being playing with slums,” Mishra said.

He also assured the large gathering that the work for laying sewer lines will be completed within a year and four kilometre long sewer lines would be laid in the slums.
