NEW DELHI: The Special Cell unit of Delhi Police has claimed to have arrested two members of a drug cartel, who used to source heroin from Myanmar and supply it to India.

A total of three kilograms of high quality heroin has been recovered from the accused.

The contraband is said to be valued at Rs 12 crores in the international market.

The accused have been identified as Nitin Gupta and Hefajuddin.

The Special Cell had been working on drug peddlers operating in the states of Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab.

After two months of developing information, the members of the group were identified

“On February 21, specific information was received that an important member of this drug cartel had arrived in Delhi and was staying in a hotel in Mahipalpur. It was also found that he would deliver a large consignment of heroin to one of their Delhi-based conduits near Hotel Smart Stay in the same area,” said a senior police official.

The accused were arrested upon identification and the contraband – found wrapped in several layers of thick carbon paper to conceal it from Airport authorities – was seized from them.

“The duo was interrogated wherein they disclosed that they are members of an international narcotic drug cartel, being run by the main kingpin Shahyar from Manipur. Hefizuddin had further disclosed that he had brought the recovered heroin to Delhi from Manipur by air,” the official added.

Police said that during his interrogation, Hefizuddin also disclosed that he had been working as a carrier of heroin for Shahyar for the past five years.

He revealed that Shahyar also supplies heroin to drug dealers based in Delhi, NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and also Nepal.

The heroin was reportedly also supplied to African drug peddlers working in Vikas Puri, Tilak Nagar, Shahpur and Uttam Nagar.
