TERRORIST INFILTRATION, VIOLENCE UP IN J&K

NEW DELHI: Though the Ministry of Home Affairs claimed that the security situation in the country was under control, the official MHA data shows the opposite and exposes its failure.

According the data on internal security released by MHA, the number of terrorist violence incidents in Jammu & Kashmir was 220 in 2012, 170 in 2013, 222 in 2014, 208 in 2015 and 322 in 2016.

The number of infiltration attempts has also increased in the last five years. In 2012, the number of such attempts was 264, 277 in 2013, 222 in 2014, 121 in 2015 and 364 in 2016.

However, according to the government data, the Centre has been able to neutralised 150 terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir during 2016. MHA also claimed that 52 ISIS activists were arrested in last one year from the valley of Kashmir.

In order to formulate a national strategy to deal with banned terrorist organisations (IS/ ISIS/ISIL/DAESH), Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also held a meeting with Principal Secreteries of the ministry and Director Generals of 13 state and central agencies.

The ministry also said that with a view to enhance security in the left extremism affected states, especially Chhattisgarh, two new branches of the National Investigative Agency (NIA) have started functioning. However, the official data shows that the budget allocation for MHA has decreased in last two years. Moreover, out of 9, 67,816 posts in paramilitary forces, 73,464 posts are vacant. Sources said that Parliamentary Standing Committee for Home Affairs expressed its concerns over the matter and asked the government to take quick action to fill the vacancy.
