NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday met Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal seeking arrest of those who ‘caused’ violence in Delhi University, shouted anti-india slogans and threatened Gurmehar Kaur. On this, Baijal assured the CM of stringent action.

The CM in a tweet informed: “Met LG. Demanded arrest of those who caused violence in DU, shouted anti-india slogans n who threatened Gurmehar. He assured strict action (sic).”

After the meeting, Lieutenant Governor Baijal tweeted: “Hon’ble Chief Minister, Delhi met me at Raj Niwas.. have assured him that strict immediate action will be taken against those violating law.. (sic)”

After meeting the LG, Kejriwal said people who threatened the Kargil war martyr’s daughter should be arrested immediately, so that a message could be sent that the administration and police would not tolerate such activities.

Kejriwal alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) people were behind the violence and anti-india sloganeering in the Delhi University.

“They (BJP) send their own people to shout anti-india slogans and after that their supporters come and beat other people accusing them of shouting such slogans,” Kejriwal alleged. “Once the culprits are arrested, it will become clear that BJP’S people were behind the violence and anti-india sloganeering in the campus,” Kejriwal said.

He also said that the peo--

ple, who raised anti-india slogans in the JNU, were not yet arrested despite having their images and videos because “they were their (BJP’S) own people”. Kejriwal accused the BJP of doing dirty politics and said: “The country will not tolerate BJP’S dirty politics. Now the youth and the students are against BJP. Parents are worried about their children.”

“I am not the Chief Minister of AAP only but of entire Delhi, similarly Kiren Rijiju is the Minister of State for Home for the entire country, so we are part of the system. It is the responsibility of every person in the system to protect Gurmehar and punish the culprits,” he added.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, it was march vs march at Delhi University’s North Campus as hundreds of students and teachers from DU, JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia hit the

streets with a call to “save” universities from the “onslaught” of the ABVP. This comes a day after a ‘Tiranga march’ by the ABVP.

The protesters, mainly comprising students of Left group like AISA, shouted slogans ABVP Go Back and Azaadi as the march made its way through the roads of North Campus towards the Arts Faculty building. There were also slogans like DU against gundagardi, Save DU, Fight Back DU.

“If they cannot win this with their intellectual skill, they will replace it with violence,” says Sitaram Yechury, Member of Rajya Sabha, at the protest march. Yogendra Yadav also participated in the march.

Taking precautions, the Delhi Police organised five layers of security arrangements so that it was a peaceful march and there was no untoward incident.
