ATTACK ON AISA ACTIVISTS: 2 STUDENTS ARRESTED

NEW DELHI: Two alleged ABVP activists were arrested for attacking two AISA supporters on the North Campus of Delhi University on Tuesday. The AISA activists, Raj Singh and Utkarsh Bhardwaj, alleged that they were strangulat­ed by Prashant Mishra and his friends, who followed them while they were returning from Arts Faculty around 5.20 pm, police said. Utkarsh and Raj claimed that they were attacked by seven-eight people near Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College and strangulat­ed with belts. Police managed to nab two persons — Prashant and Vinayak Sharma — from the spot. They have been booked under IPC Sections 323 (punishment for voluntaril­y causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) and arrested, said a senior police officer. The two are currently being questioned about the assault and other members of the group are being identified. While talking to Millennium Post, Utkarsh said: “I was also injured on the first day of the Ramjas incident. Today (Tuesday) when I was walking with my friends and had reached Patel Chest, we saw a group of 7-8 ABVP members tailing us. When we were about to reach Khalsa College we were beaten up,” said Utkarsh. “We had received the complaint by the AISA members that the student was beaten up. We have registered an FIR in the case and prompt action was taken by the police. We had provided adequate security in the event to make sure that no untoward incident takes place,” said Joint Commission­er of Police (South Western range), Depender Pathak.
