NEW DELHI: Following the ugly clashes that broke out between Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists and All India Student Association, two ABVP members were suspended by its party on Wednesday for their act of “indiscipline”.

The accused, Prashant Mishra ex-president and Vinayak Sharma President of Sri Venkateswara College were arrested on Tuesday night for assaulting students during the United University communities’ March. But, on Wednesday they were released on an interim bail.

“We detest the ‘Bharat Mata’ tag of ABVP and also the terrorist activities of union members of Sri Venkateswara College. Both Mishra and Sharma have tarnished our college’s reputation,” echoed students of Sri Venkateswara College.

“We want Sharma to be removed from his post and also restrict the entry of Mishra in the campus,” the students added.

The students of Sri Venkateswara College have organised a meeting on Thursday at 11 am to discuss the issue and also work towards a progressive environment.

ABVP said, “We have taken a disciplinary action against the duo.” The party also stated they are conducting an internal review into the matter following which necessary action will be initiated.

Injured badly in the protest, Utkarsh Bhardwaj, said, “ABVP has only initiated this action to repair their tarnished image. We are satisfied with the manner in which the police acted.”

The ABVP on Thursday, will hold a peaceful demonstration meeting aimed at restoring peace and tranquility along exclusion of the Left wing.

“The rally will start from the Arts Faculty, north campus and cover most of the campus colleges. We want the cops to take legal action against students who used anti-national slogans at Ramjas College,” said Saket Bahugna, ABVP’S National Media Convener.
