Now, a ‘Tiranga march’ in South Campus
NEW DELHI: Students of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the students’ body backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party, carried out a ‘Tiranga march’ at the South Campus in Delhi University on Wednesday. The students carried flags, banners and shouted Vande Mataram slogans.
Hundreds of ABVP activists carried out the ‘Tiranga march’ from Motilal Nehru to Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College (ARSD) amid huge presence of security forces. “The main purpose to launch this ‘Tiranga march’ was to maintain peace and harmony in the Delhi University, South Campus and we don’t have any problem with any other protest group and march,” says an ABVP activist at South Campus.
Though the police movements have been cut down, fear and tension linger on at the North Campus.
Meanwhile, students at the Campus are perplexed with the upcoming ABVP students’ peace restoration protest. “We are fed up with the series of protest marches since the Ramjas violence. Our classes have been hampered and mental peace is ruined,” said a second year student of Hansraj College. According to a senior police official “students need not to fear, police have already made proper arrangement and ample amount of security personnel have been deployed at Delhi University campuses. Moreover, we are vigilant over the students’ union’s movements.”
“Members of ABVP from across Delhi University colleges in Delhi will join the protest march on Thursday and the rally will be carried out from the Arts Faculty, North Campus and the march will cover a lot of North Campus colleges. During the demonstration rally, we will demand police to take legal action against the students, who reverberated anti-national slogans at Ramjas,” said Saket Bahuguna, National Media Convenor, ABVP.
