LG stresses on deterrent action in cases of offences against women

NEW DELHI: LG Anil Baijal on Wednesday chaired the first meeting of the “Task Force on Women’s Safety Issues” and directed strict action in cases of offences against women in the national Capital.

Digitisati­on of data in respect of sexual offences against women for fast track investigat­ion of FIRS is among a slew of directives issued by the Lieutenant Governor on Wednesday.

Attended by a group of eminent experts, he also directed setting up of a study group to analyse root causes of such offences. Baijal also directed the installati­on of CCTV cameras which must be functional at all times across the national Capital along with its proper and reg- ular repair and maintenanc­e. He also called for an increased patrolling by the police PCR vans along with increased number of phone lines for ‘100’ number for greater coverage of distress calls. He further asked the study group comprising of eminent sociologis­ts, psychologi­sts and other officers to submit a report on root causes of offences against women in the city after detailed analysis.

He also directed the group to recommend corrective actions for the same within three months. The LG has asked the Chief Secretary to work towards streamlini­ng systems of maintenanc­e of lights in public places. Greater visibility of policemen on sensitive places and increased patrolling in areas with repeated complaints was also ensured by the LG. “Directed for effective visibility of police on roads/sensitive places and streamlini­ng systems of maintenanc­e of lights in public places,” tweeted Anil Baijal.

Meanwhile, Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) chairperso­n Swati Maliwal after attending the meeting thanked the LG for issuing several crucial decisions concerning women’s safety and his direction to the Home Secretary to immediatel­y submit a report on the acid sale in the Capital.

“Thank Lt. Governor for chairing first Special Task Force on women safety in Delhi. Very fruitful meeting, lots of good decisions,” she tweeted.
