GREATER NOIDA: In the fourth road accident within ten days in the district, a 23-year-old engineering student of Galgotias University was killed when a truck being driven on the wrong side hit his motorcycle near Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida on Wednesday.

Deepankar Singh, a third year B.tech student from Kanpur, died when he was returning to his hostel after college on his motorbike.

“The incident occurred around 2.30 pm at Murshadpur underpass of Yamuna Expressway near Gautam Buddha University. The deceased was returning from college. The truck was going on the wrong side of the road as one side was blocked due to renovation of the road. The truck hit his TVS Apache motorbike” said Madanpal, SI, Ecotech I police station.

“A team of police rushed to the spot soon after we were informed about the accident. The victim was rushed to a private hospital in Greater Noida, where he was declared brought dead. He received severe injuries in the chest and head. We have seized the truck as the driver of fled away leaving the vehicle behind.

“His parents have been informed and it will take time for them to arrive from Kanpur. It is clear that the accident occurred by the mistake of the truck driver as he was travelling on the wrong side of the road. A police team had been deployed at the hospital as hundreds of students have gathered there,” added Madanpal.

Students present at the hospital expressed their concern over the problems they face daily while crossing the road. They said there are no barricades to slow down speeding vehicles, despite two major universities situated on the road.

Expressways and highways are fast moving roads and are constructed to ease the traffic as well as the commuters. Watchful driving is necessary on such roads when they are undergoing renovation.

Last week, a 23-year-old MBBS student from Sharda University died in a similar incident when his car skidded off a rugged patch on the expressway.
