21-year-old kills self by setting House on fire

NEW DELHI: After suffering from bouts of depression over a failed love affair, a 21-yearold set himself ablaze by setting his house on fire in South Delhi’s Kishangarh area. The police have confirmed the reason for the act, however, no suicide note has been recovered from the spot. The man died in the hospital while receiving treatment for his injuries.

According to a senior police official, a PCR call was received at 10.29 am, about a fire breaking out in a flat at Vasant Apartment located in Kishangarh area. After analysing the threat level of the fire, the Delhi Fire Services deputed one tender to the spot. The neighbours of the victim, Rohit had called the police after spotting the fire and tried to break into the flat.

“By the time the police team reached, it was found that the family members with the help of neighbors had already broken the gate of the room. Police found Rohit (21) partially burnt and was immediatel­y rushed to the hospital,” said a senior police official. The youth had suffered serious burn injuries affecting roughly 50 percent of his body and was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared dead, the official added.

The family members of the deceased said that Rohit used to run a grocery shop in the locality and had returned on Wednesday morning from their native place Begusarai, Bihar.

“He arrived in the morning and went to his room to take rest, later we witnessed smoke coming out from his room. We immediatel­y broke open the door with the help of neighbors and found Rohit burnt and unconsciou­s,” said Rajesh, the elder brother.

Police said that inquest proceeding­s under CRPC Section 174 have been ordered.
