Pankaj breaks all past vote margin records in Noida assembly seat
NOIDA: The Noida Metropolitan seat was one of the most talked-about seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2017 as the son of current Home Minister and a senior leader from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rajnath Singh was contesting from the seat. Pankaj Singh, son of Rajnath Singhm registered his maiden victory with a record margin of over one lakh votes against his nearest rival on Saturday.
The Noida seat is represented by current Cabinet minister Mahesh Sharma for past many terms. In the 2012 Assembly elections, BJP won this constituency convincingly by 27,676 votes. Mahesh Sharma, the winning BJP candidate, got 77,319 votes. The nearest rival was Omdutt Sharma of BSP who got 49,643 votes. Mahesh Sharma was replaced by Vimla Batham in the bypolls in 2014 after he got nominated as the Cabinet Minister.
This time, Pankaj Singh broke all the past vote margin records in the Noida assembly constituency and defeated his nearest rival, Samajwadi wparty’s Sunil Chaudhary, by a whopping 1,04,016 votes. The BSP candidate Ravi Kant Mishra stood with 27,365 votes. Of the total 2,54,194 votes, Pankaj Singh managed to secure an approval from 63.8 per cent voters in the Noida assembly constituency.
The counting of votes started on Saturday morning. Among the main candidates who were contesting for the Noida seat included Pankaj Singh (BJP), Sunil Choudhary (SP+INC), Pankaj Singh Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Ravi Kant Mishra (BSP). Pankaj Singh managed to be on the top right from the beginning in all 35 rounds of counting.
Looking at the response Pankaj Singh was generating in the area, it was obvious that he was one of the strongest candidates.
