NEW DELHI: In yet another accident involving a high-end car, four people were injured, leaving one critical on Sunday in R K Puram. A speeding BMW car rammed into a Swift Dzire Uber cab and an auto, before breaking through a boundary wall.

The BMW driver then hit a Wagon-r car and a bike, both of which were parked beyond the wall.

The accident is the latest in a series of mishaps involving high-end cars in the National Capital Region.

According to the police, the accused, 28-year-old Rajat was under the influence of alcohol when he was driving the high-end vehicle.

The victims of the accident include a married couple, Munni Datta (28) and Bitto Pal (32), the Uber driver Pradeep (35) and auto driver, Ram Chander (60).

All four are undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Centre.

The couple in the Uber cab was on their way to the IGI Airport from Noida.

The residents of the area claim that the accident took place around 8 am near RK Puram, Sector 9 at Major Somnath Sharma Marg.

“The speeding BMW car was coming from the wrong side towards Babu Genu Marg when it hit the Uber cab. The impact was such that the Uber car turned turtle three to four times, injuring three of its occupants.

"After this, Rajat tried to speed away, but lost control over his vehicle and rammed into a boundary wall after which he hit a parked WagonR,” said Neelam Yadav, a resident.

The owner of the WagonR, Pooja Yadav, said, “I saw the BMW crash through the boundary wall and hit my car. I rushed to the spot, to rescue the driver.”

She also stated that it was difficult to pull out Rajat because he was trapped behind the airbags and was unable to speak. Soon after his rescue, the residents started beating him.

“We also found alcohol bottles inside his car,” she added.

Ram Chander's wife, Omvati had reached the Trauma Centre after she was informed by the cops about the accident.

“He had left home around 7 am. We live near Lady Harding Hospital. He received eye and hand injuries. He had promised to come back home to celebrate Holi with his grandchildren,” she said.

Out of the four, Munni sustained grievous injuries, and is currently battling for her life.

Her husband Bitto's condition has been declared stable by the doctors. Reportedly, the couple hailed from Assam and none of their family members visited them at the Trauma Centre.

“No one from the couple's family could be contacted because both of them were unfit to give a statement,” said a police official.

The police stated that Rajat, a pass out of Bhagat Singh College was sent to a government hospital to ascertain if he was driving drunk.

“Rajat was on his way back home from a party in Vasant Vihar after dropping off a friend. The vehicle has been registered under the name of Daily Food India, a company based out of Sonepat,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, (South), Ishwar Singh.
