BENGALURU: A BJP councillor was on Tuesday hacked to death by unidentified assailants at Anekal in Bengaluru rural district, police said.

“BJP councillor and Dalit leader Srinivas Prasad, popularly known as Kithaganahalli Vasu, was stabbed with sharp weapons around 5 AM,” Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Vinit Singh told a news agency over telephone.

On the motive behind the crime, Singh said, “It is too early to comment on it as we are investigating the case.”

On October 16, an RSS worker was hacked to death in Bengaluru, which triggered massive protests by BJP and RSS workers.

Reacting to the incident, RSS Media Coordinator for Karnataka, Rajesh Padmar said the state government should take strong steps to stop such politically-motivated killings.

He also demanded an immediate and an impartial probe into it.

“In the last two years, more than 10 RSS-VHP-BJP activists have been killed.it is a dangerous development in a democratic set-up,” Padmar said.

He also said that the deceased was a soft-spoken person and has no criminal cases against him. AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Opposition leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Tuesday hit out each other after the boycott of the latter’s party members during the obituary reference of a sitting member in the State Assembly.

Both blamed each other for causing the death of 53-yearold sitting MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy, who got elected on YSR Congress ticket in 2014 and later crossed over to the Telugu Desam Party in 2016.

Bhuma, who represented Nandyal Assembly constituency in Kurnool district, died of a massive heart attack on Sunday.

He served as an MLA between 1992 and 1996 and became a member of Lok Sabha in 1996, 1998 and 1999. He lost the 2009 elections from Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency as the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party candidate.

Chandrababu and Jagan spoke separately with reporters in the Assembly lobbies even as the House was adjourned for the day after passing a condolence resolution. NEW DELHI: The luck finally ran out on Tuesday for Nikhil Priyadarshi, a noted automobile businessman of Patna, and his father Krishna Bihari Prasad, a retired IAS officer.

Priyadarshi, accused of raping a former Congress minister’s minor daughter, was on the run since December 22 last year. Priyadarshi and his father were arrested by Uttarakhand police during a routine a check-up round for outsiders in Rishikesh on Tuesday.

Talking to Millennium Post, Pauri Garhwal SSP Mukhtar Mohsin, a batchmate of his Patna counterpart Manu Maharaj, said, “The duo were arrested during a routine check up round in Chila locality under Lakshman Jhoola police station. As the policemen noticed an Audi car with registration number of Haryana, cops asked necessary documents from them to establish their identities, which both failed to provide.”

Given that the vehicle was registered in the name of Priyadarshi Group, Mohsin did a Google search and was surprised to see the results as duo, who were dodging the police for several months in many cases, were infront of him. Then the Pauri Garhwal SSP called his Patna counterpart to verify the duo’s credentials, which proved to be a big Holi gift for Manu Maharaj.

Nikhil had been on the run, ever since the girl lodged a case with the Patna police on December 22. The arrest of the prime accused heaved a sigh of relief for the special investigation team (SIT) of the Bihar police, who was having relentless pressure to act and arrest.

Excited over the arrest, Patna SSP Manu Maharaj told Millennium Post that it’s a big catch. “The arrest will help us in solving the case. The Bihar police was in regular touch with Uttarakhand counterpart. We had the tip-off about their presence in the state and our team was based at the state’s border.”
