RML doctors soon to get their own hostel
NEW DELHI: A 23-storey high tech doctor’s hostel may soon come up in Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi.
This tallest hostel building for doctors will include a three-level basement parking which is expected to accommodate 300 cars. Altogether, 824 rooms have been approved for the hostel which will be constructed on over 1.5 acres of land.
“The hostel will have separate sections for male and female doctors. Also, separate rooms for married doctors have been chalked out. The building will be equipped with Wi-fi and separate lifts for different blocks,” said a senior doctor at Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
He also stated that the Union Health Ministry has approved the project and Rs 181 crore has been sanctioned. At present, there are 146 rooms available in the hospital. With only one-fourth of its 1000 resident doctors currently getting the hostel facility, authorities of Ram Manohar Lohia hospital had approached the Centre with a proposal to construct a new block exclusively for them in a bid to address the accommodation problem.
Another senior official at RML hospital said, “The doctors wanted accommodation inside the campus as they are supposed to perform their duty round the clock. Also, they have emergency calls to attend.”
Although the situation is no different in other medical institutes of the city, what makes the case of RML resident doctors worse is the dearth of private accommodation in the vicinity of the hospital.
