Man stabs son to death after being asked to stop drinking

According to police, the murder was the result of heated argument, where both the son Gyanu and the father Chandrika were drunk; the feud turned ugly when Chandrika stabbed Gyanu with a kitchen knife

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death by his father at their house in North West Delhi's Bhalswa Dairy area on Tuesday night.

According to police, the murder was the result of heated argument.

The son-father duo was drunk at the time of the incident when the son, Gyanu asked his father to stop consuming alcohol.

Following this, the feud took an ugly turn when the accused with a kitchen knife stabbed his son to death.

“The incident took place around 10:15pm in Vishwanath Puri area of the Bhalswa Dairy,” said a police officer.

After killing his son, Chandrika fled from the scene. Immediatel­y, Gyanu's elder brother took him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. “Hours after the murder, we arrested Chandrika from the same neighbourh­ood with the help of local residents,” added police officer.

According to a senior police officer, after Gyanu was drunk when he had reached home. Soon, he got involved in a heated argument with his father. Within a few minutes, the argument escalated and Gyanu allegedly slapped his father when the latter refused to stop drinking. “In a fit of rage, Chandrika went inside the kitchen to fetch a knife and brutally started stabbing his son,” said the senior police official.

Chandika, who worked as a small time rag-picker would often raise fights with his family. “Even after we arrested the accused, he showed no signs of remorse,” added the officer.
