AAP embarks on padyatras to reach out to masses
NEW DELHI: With the Municipal elections around the corner, Aam Aadmi Party MLAS throughout Delhi, along with candidates of various wards, embarked on a “mass contact” activity on Sunday.
AAP leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, organised
padyatras and door-to-door campaign where they met with the residents. The leaders also addressed small meetings, addressed corner meetings of volunteers and in some cases inaugurated election offices.
“While other parties are still struggling to finalise candidates, AAP has 248 candidates campaigning on the ground. On Sunday, with the mass contact, AAP'S MCD election campaign has truly begun. From now onwards, MLAS and candidates will have such mass contact activity is to be held every evening,” said a senior AAP leader.
“In the last two days, meetings have been held with doorto-door teams and candidates in which their performance was assessed and suggestions given. Similar assessments were held for projector shows that are playing Arvind Kejriwal's message to the people of Delhi. Since the beginning of March, our candidates and volunteers have already begun door-todoor to reach each and every one of Delhi's 46 lakh households. This entire exercise is expected to be completed by the first week of April,” added the leader.
AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejri- wal on Saturday had sought to give a pep talk to AAP volunteers demoralised after the party's poor show in the Punjab and Goa elections and asked them to gear up for upcoming MCD polls.
In a Facebook interaction with volunteers on Saturday, Kejriwal said the party's main focus in the MCD polls would be to “clean Delhi and make it spic and span like London and Paris,” and end corruption in civic bodies and introduce ‘Swaraj'.”if an honest party like ours wins MCD, we will clean Delhi and improve education and health sectors further,” the Chief Minister said.
He had also asked volunteers to build booth level organisations and popularise the work done by Delhi government. “We are not Napoleon to win election after election, cover territories. We are here for nation's development,” Kejriwal had said.
