NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Prakash Javadekar has said that 9,000 ad-hoc teacher posts in the University of Delhi will be regularised within one year.

“Our policy is permanent employment. Therefore, in the Delhi University case, where there were more than 9,000 ad-hoc posts, we have made it compulsory and there was a court case also. Now, the solution is that within one year, all these posts will be made permanent and not temporary,” said Javadekar during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, on Monday.

The minister also told Lok Sabha that part-time employment is not the policy of the central government and it wants to make the teachers' appointment permanent.

Further, the government is moving to the court in order to make all ad-hoc posts permanent.

Javadekar said: “Temporary and ad-hoc teachers are paid the same salary as Assistant Professors and there is no discrimination between them. We want to fill up these posts and we have taken many measures to fill all these vacancies.”

“HRD ministry has been monitoring all the teachers' recruitment process regularly and it is a continuous process,” he added.

The process of new recruitments in Delhi University is going on and all posts of adhoc teachers will be made permanent within one year.

Moreover, the procedure is being followed in all 41 universities across the country.

A special mechanism has been created through which the ministry is monitoring recruitments and also mandating that all vacancies be notified in 15 days.

All these will be reviewed by universities and will also be available on the University Grants Commission website.
