NEW DELHI: Suspicious of the fact that his spouse was having an extra-marital affair, a retired Border Security Force officer shot her inside their residence in South West Delhi's Chawla area on Tuesday.

Police arrested the accused from the house and the weapon of offence has been recovered.

His wife is said to be in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung hospital.

According to a senior police official, the retired BSF officer has been identified as 45-yearold Nityanand.

He used to live with his wife Sunita (40) and his son and daughter, aged 10 and 15 respectively, in their house located at Sarika Vihar, Chhawla in South West Delhi.

Sources told Millennium Post that Nityanand, who was a habitual drinker, had to take ‘compulsory retirement' from BSF due to his drinking habit.

He used to fight with his wife over trivial issues and was reportedly drunk during the time of the incident.

On the day of the incident as well, Nityanand had a fight with Sunita. He reportedly was suspicious that she was having an extra-marital affair.

“Even after his discharge from the service, he continues with his drinking and the problem became worse over the years. He had a fight with his wife before shooting her,” the official said.

When his wife retired to her bedroom, Nityanand took out his gun and fired at her stomach.

Residents in the locality were alerted by the sound of the gunshot and the woman's cries for help.

The police was informed by one of the neighbours, who made a PCR call, and Sunita was taken to Safdarjung Hospital. The accused was arrested and the weapon was confiscated.

Sunita is currently seeking treatment at the hospital, where her condition is said to be critical.

“She was shot in the stomach and this has deteriorated her condition. The accused has been arrested and he confessed to shooting his wife,” the official added.
