INDIAN-AMERICAN TEACHER JAILED FOR WIRE FRAUD
WASHINGTON: A 58-year-old Indian-american teacher was sentenced to 11 months in jail, which he has already served during the trial, for the wire fraud scheme involving the hiring of Indian nationals to teach in the US. George Mariadas Kurusu was sentenced on Wednesday in Alpine, California, and was ordered to pay $53,000 restitution for the wire fraud scheme, the American Bazaar online reported. Kurusu has been in federal custody since his arrest in May 2016. He pleaded guilty in January to wire fraud, fraud in foreign labour contracting, making a false statement on a visa application and tampering with a witness, victim or an informant.
