HONOUR KILLING ACCUSED NABBED

-

A year after the incident, Delhi Police apprehends the accused Vikram Joshi from Sarkhej-gandhi Nagar highway in Gujarat NEW DELHI:

When the Ghaziabad Police found the dead body of a man, who was thrown from a high-rise building in the city's Vijay Nagar area, little did they know that the man, Vishal Verma, was the victim of a tragic love story.

The case was transferred to Delhi Police, who started an investigation only to find that it was a case of 'honour killing'.

Almost a year later, the Special Cell of Delhi Police succeeded in arresting Vikram Joshi, the uncle of a minor girl who was reported to be Verma's lover.

The accused had been declared proclaimed offender by a court, carrying an arrest reward of Rs 20,000.

"Our team received specific information that Vikram Joshi has been spotted in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Immediately, the team left Delhi and searched for him at various places in Ahmedabad and finally succeeded in apprehending him from Sarkhej-gandhi Nagar highway on April 26," said DCP Special Cell, Pramod Singh Kushwah.

A year ago, Verma – a 22-year-old tailor who worked in Sikar in Rajasthan – had eloped with the girl who belonged to a different caste, realising that their relationship would not be appreciated by her family.

The couple took shelter at his sister's place in West Delhi's Uttam Nagar area.

Little did Verma know that the girl's violent family member would begin hunting the couple and end his life.

On being persuaded by the girl's family and being assured that the matter will be resolved soon, Verma's family told them the location of the couple.

On May 2, 2016, the girl's father Mukesh Joshi, along with her uncle Vikram and cousin Avinash Joshi, reached Uttam Nagar and convinced Verma and his relatives that they will allow him to marry the girl once she turns 18.

The unsuspecting family fell for the trap and agreed to the proposal. They allowed the girl's family to take the couple back home.

Instead of taking them to their village, however, the girl's family members abducted Verma and took him to a building at Vijay Nagar.

They assaulted and beat him mercilessly and, in the end, threw him from a highrise building.

When the matter came to Ghaziabad Police's notice, they registered a zero FIR and transferred the case to Delhi. Delhi Police started the investigation, but were in the dark for almost a year.

Fortune favoured Delhi Police's Special Cell on April 26, when the team received information about Joshi and arrested him from Gujarat.

Cops are now trying to gather information and arrest the other two accused.
