DUTA alleges MHRD intending to make colleges autonomous
DUTA has also alleged that no appointment was given to them despite repeated reminders to the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Vicechancellor
NEW DELHI: The Teacher's Association of Delhi University (DUTA) opposing the implication of autonomous status on few colleges of the varsity alleged that the MHRD Minister has been issuing statements about the intention to make the colleges autonomous and give them loans rather than grants.
It further stated that this is a clear indication of the intent to push Universities towards privatisation.
The association has also alleged that the DUTA Executive deliberated about the lack of progress on the key demands which stated regularisation and permanent appointments, proper implementation of roster with inclusion of Physical Education Teachers, time bound promotions, release of pension, etc.
“It is clear that the government wants to avoid funding of the colleges by implying an autonomous status. The status will relieve the government in terms of funds as the colleges will be privatised and have a free hand on charging fees, etc.” said DUTA President Nandita Narain.
Narain stated that the government is making it a commercial activity and the colleges have to take a step for getting an autonomous status.
“The St Stephens College opted for autonomy but the government wants to privatise other colleges as well,” she added.
DUTA also stated that no appointment was given to them despite repeated reminders to the MHRD and the Vice-chancellor.
“The unanimous position of the DUTA Executive is that no roster is to be signed without inclusion of teachers of Physical Education,” said the association.
