SDMC rolls out measures to keep toilets clean & hygienic
NEW DELHI: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday informed that it will take few steps to encourage people to use its urinals by changing the general perception of it these being unhygienic.
Generally, the citizens avoid using SDMC urinals due to the same which compels them to ease themselves in the open. With an aim to intensify the efforts in the direction of Swachh Delhi Abhiyan, the SDMC has been concentrating on regular cleaning of its urinals in all it four zones.
The Commissioner, Puneet Kumar Goel, stated that the civic body is committed to maintaining cleanliness of the urinals as per the standard norms. The cleanliness drive in West and South zones started on April 27 whereas in other two zones- Central and Najafgarh it was launched on May 1.
The manpower under the DEMS has been deployed to clean the urinals and remove the stinking yellowish concentration by using phenyl, acid, and harpic. The teams have also been provided with the two trucks of water to ensure that the urinals are kept tidy.
Goel also informed that the SDMC has also been concentrating on its 150 public toilets to ensure cleaning in two shifts on daily basis.
For this purpose, an additional 300 manpower in uniform has been deployed. The work in the forty public toilets has already been taken up the work in the remaining 110 will start soon.
“A checklist has been prescribed to ensure proper cleanliness and available infrastructure and material in order. The additional manpower will report the deficiencies related to the floor, walls, washbasins, doors, dustbins, sanitary fittings, water, electricity, soft and hard brushes, brooms, liquid hand wash, plastic buckets and mugs and floor dusters,” added the Commissioner.
