SIX-YEAR-OLD STILL MISSING

- ZAFAR ABBAS

A family's outing to a religious function resulted in the kidnapping of their six-year-old son on May 7. The child, Muqtada, went missing from Jamia Nagar in South-east Delhi.

Since then, Saima, the mother has not slept properly for 11 nights now. She still knocks on every door whenever she hears a child cry. Her daily work including cooking, stitching, and dressing has come to a halt.

Ever since the kidnapping, she has only been murmuring Muqtada's name. The boy went missing when the family went out to attend a function their relative's place in Zakir Nagar.

The missing boy was also accompanied by two of his sisters during the event.

The family never expected to return home with only two children.

“Muqtada was playing with me as I read Quran. So, I asked him to play outside. He came twice after that but when I did not see him for 10 minutes, I got worried,” said sobbing Saima.

The family went into a frenzy and started looking for the child. They were soon joined in by their neighbours. As all the efforts turned futile, they realised that Muqtada was probably kidnapped.

“We are poor people. All we could do is to go to the police. But ever since the FIR has been lodged, no substantial progress has been made. We expect the cops to find our son soon,” said Mobin Ahmed, father of the kidnapped child.

The family runs a small tailoring business in Zakir Nagar and has not received any ransom call.

Though the cops have made several teams to find the missing child but their efforts have not sustained any worthy clue.

“I could not sleep thinking where my son is. All my hopes are with the Delhi Police. I would be grateful if they find my son,” added Saima.
