NEW DELHI: Two persons died and five others were injured when the group's car collided with a makeshift rickshaw at outer Delhi's Baba Haridas Nagar on Saturday night.

The group was travelling in a Nissan Terrano XUV car when it collided with the vehicle. The seven men were on their way to Delhi after attending a marriage function in Gurugram.

According to a senior police official, the deceased have been identified as Ajay and Raj, both residents of Jind district in Haryana.

Both of them were declared brought dead on arrival and were transferred to Safdarjung hospital. The injured have been shifted to Rao Tula Ram hospital.

The accident took place near Jharoda road. Vivekanand, the makeshift rickshaw driver in his statement to the police said that he was returning home when the speeding XUV came out of nowhere and rammed into the rickshaw.

The impact of the crash was such that the XUV was completely crushed.

The police were later informed about the accident after which a local team was deputed along with a team from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). The police initially faced a lot of difficulties res- cuing the trapped passengers, but the fire officials eventually cut open several parts of the car with a gas cutter and rescued one of the passengers.

The relatives of the deceased and the injured were informed.

The rickshaw driver also reportedly sustained minor injuries. The police are now trying to ascertain if the driver of the car was driving under the influence of alcohol.

The police have in the meantime registered a case at Baba Haridas Nagar police station.

“An FIR under sections 279, 337 and 304 (A) IPC has been lodged. We will be investigating this case from all angles,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), MN Tiwari.
