FRRO, COPS DETAIN 20 FOREIGNERS

Among the detained, 19 foreigners were females and one minor child and had entered India without proper travel documents

NEW DELHI: In a massive crackdown on foreigners living illegally in India, the South District Police and the Foreigner Regional Registrati­on Office (FRRO) on Monday conducted a joint operation to deport these foreigners in South Delhi.

A total of 20 foreigners belonging to different Central Asian Republican countries has been detained.

Based on an input received from the FRRO, raids were conducted on Monday morning in Delhi's Vasant Kunj and Malviya Nagar.

Over 100 police staff, supervised by ACP CAW Apoorva Gupta, assisted by ACP Operations Palwinder Singh Chehel cordoned off and sanitised the two marked locations in the area.

Among the detained, 19 are females and one minor child and had entered India without proper travel documents.

The cops are also looking into the matters like their purpose of stay and period of stay. It is said that the FRRO had researched their whereabout­s and traced them in South Delhi before raiding the specific premises.

“The detained foreigners were handed over to the FRRO staff for further necessary action at their end,” said Additional DCP South Chinmoy Biswal.

The cops also said that proper action would be initiated against those landlords and owner of the properties where these foreigners were put up without proper documentat­ion.
