DU admissions: Hotline set up for African students

- DIVYAM JAIN

A special hotline has been set up by Delhi University to guide African students for the upcoming academic session.

The Foreign Students Registration office will respond to phone calls at +91-1127666756. It will also answer queries from African students on fsr@du.ac.in and fsr_du@yahoo.com.

Currently, the varsity has received around 300 applications from African students and the deadline for online registration has been extended to May 31 from April 20.

The University, in its statement, said: ‘'The University is in consultation with some ambassadors of various Afri- can countries and has received a very enthusiastic response.''

The ambassadors showed a positive inclination in instituting scholarships to help African students sail through to the varsity, the statement added.

“We believe this outreach programme is a first-of-itskind from any university in India. The University of Delhi has diverse demography and we intend to further enrich it,” the statement said.

“The university is committed to reaching out to international students which will result in strengthening social, cultural and political ties between the two countries,” the university's registrar said. The move is seen as a positive development after a series of attacks on Africans in the NCR.
