E-RICKSHAW DRIVER BEATEN TO DEATH

NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old e-rickshaw driver was beaten to death allegedly with stones wrapped in towels, after he objected to some youth urinating outside GTB Nagar metro station on Saturday.

The victim, Ravinder, lived in a shanty located Kishore Basti Market in GTB Nagar area.

DCP (North West) Milind Dumbre stated that the deceased had objected to two men, who were urinating in public. Infuriated that an e-rickshaw driver was giving them lectures on hygiene, the two returned with a large group and beat him to death.

Outside GTB Nagar metro station, eyewitness­es, many of them e-rickshaw drivers, reported that the confrontat­ion occurred around 1.20 pm. After their confrontat­ion with Ravinder, the two men returned around 8.20 pm with 25 men and started assaulting him until he collapsed on the ground.

Despite the vicious assaults, Ravinder managed to get up later, but refused to go to the hospital claiming that he was feeling alright.

“We had travelled some distance, but my brother kept telling me that he did not want to go to the hospital and we returned home,” said Vijender, Ravinder’s brother.

After returning home, Ravinder had a few sips from a packet of Frooti and immediatel­y collapsed on the ground and started vomiting.

The family members were in shocked and they told Millennium Post that Ravinder was an advocate the Prime Minister’s Swachh Bharat Abhi- yan, which unfortunat­ely cost him dear.

The family members also showed CCTV footage of the suspected youth purchasing beer from a nearby shop.

Meanwhile, the DCP stated that police came to know that the assailants are from a prestigiou­s college in Delhi University.

"We are investigat­ing whether the assailants were the students of that college," Dumbre said. He also added that the number of assailants is also not clear.
