Technical glitches make life difficult for DU'S online applicants

- ANAND MOHAN J

NEW DELHI: The Delhi University (DU) had introduced the online registration process, thinking that it would help free up parents and children from the drudgery of the offline admission process.

However, it was not that smooth as promised by DU authorities because of technical glitches and lack of information, the parents have to run from pillar to post to secure admission for their children.

Many parents had to come to North campus from various states only to clear some basic doubts. Jatin P Babu, had to travel all the way from Thiruvanthanapuram, Kerala.

Despite, filling the online form and making the payment, Babu did not get a receipt from the University. “The entire process passed without a glitch and the payment was made. But I got no receipt and thought my son would miss out on a seat.,” he said.

While speaking to Millennium Post, Babu said that it was not a hassle coming to Delhi but there are many parents who were visibly distressed with the University authorities. Seema Anand, who works in Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), had to take two days off from her office, as her husband is currently working abroad.

“There is no information on the website and the helpline numbers are of no use, the authorities should have prepared in advance,” she said.

The University may not have prepared for unforeseen technical glitches, however, many parents were prepared for the admission process. Armed with a Dell laptop, Chander, a Government servant, rushed into an admission counselling room.

He talks about the technical glitches in the website and shows a live demonstration, to which the DU admission volunteer Yatin replies, “I think there is a problem with your internet connection”.

Chander was asked to come in the next day as well. “Yesterday I went to South campus. Today they are saying the problem is with my internet. I don't know how many days this will drag on,” he said. GREATER NOIDA: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with acid by her neighbours following a dispute, the police said.

The dispute was initiated after their pet dog urinated on the wall of neighbour's house. The incident occurred on Monday evening but was initiated a couple of days back. They were pacified by other neighbours and the matter was resolved then. However, in the evening few young men threw acid on the woman, added cops.

Mohammad Safi alias Sikander lives with his family in a rented home in Chithera village of Dadri. Sikander's pet dog urinated on the wall of his neighbour's house Sandeep, following which both of them indulged into an argument with each other.

At that time, the dispute was resolved after some other neighbours intervened and on Monday evening the arguments between the two parties again started. following this, some youths from Sandeep's side threw acid on Sikander's wife, Jiya. “The victim, Jiya, had an argument with her neighbours couple of days ago. She has suffered 12 percent burns on her body and she alleged that her neighbours were behind the attack. The victim is getting treated,” said Ram Sen Singh, Station House Officer, Dadri police station. “FIR has been registered and the accused are on the run. We will soon to nab them,” added Singh.
