SDMC gears up to tackle water logging
The issue of desilting and water logging in areas under the civic body’s jurisdiction were discussed
NEW DELHI: With the weather forecast predicted more than the expectant amount of rainfall this monsoon season, South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has said that all agencies will have to work in tandem and work extra to tackle the problem this time.
The Corporation on Sunday discussed the issue of desilting and water logging in its jurisdiction. The points – where water accumulates every year, such as Dhansa Road Najafgarh, Sangam Vihar, Lajpat Nagar under pass, Kushak Nallah, Sunhari Nallah, Mehrauli, Defence Colony etc. – were identified and discussed.
SDMC Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat said that every year citizens have to face problems due to water logging, which causes long traffic jams.
“It would be better that all concerned agencies work together to ensure necessary corrective action to avoid the problem,” she said.
“The internal nallahas constructed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation (DSIIDC) in unauthorised colonies have no outfalls, resulting in water logging that further paralyses normal life in monsoon.
“The city Government will be contacted to address the problem,” she said.
The Mayor also said that ten pumps have been provided in each zone to tackle water logging.
“There are 26 permanent pumps with power back up at vulnerable points. In addition to this, every zone has been provided with mobile pumps,” she added.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Public Welfare Department, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Jal Board, Railway, National Highway Authority of India, New Delhi Municipal Council, power major BSES, National Thermal Power Corporation, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board and Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructural Development Corporation.
