POWER CUTS: BJP PROTESTS OUTSIDE CM’S RESIDENCE
NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP on Thursday organised a massive demonstration outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, protesting against heavy power and water cuts in the national Capital.
Hundreds of demonstrators broke police cordon, faced heavy water cannon charge by police, and courted arrest, all the while demanding that the Chief Minister meet them and accept responsibility for power and water breakdown.
Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta and other senior party leaders joined the protest march from Chandgi Ram Akhada to the Kejriwal’s residence.
The protesters were seen carrying placards and shouting slogans against Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government.
“There is no shortage of power and water in the city. It is only the mismanagement of the city government,” said Tiwari.
He also accused the AAP government for avenging its debacle in recently-concluded municipal corporation elections by not providing adequate water and power to city residents.
“Before the MCD polls, the AAP government had warned the residents of Delhi to bear the consequences if BJP wins in the polls. Now as BJP has won, the party is avenging its defeat. The CM is running away from his responsibilities,” Tiwari said.
Tiwari also alleged that despite giving him an appointment, Kejriwal did not meet him. “He gave us a time to meet. We were here since morning, but he didn’t show up. When we went to his residence, he was not found. People of Delhi will show him the way,” the state BJP chief said.
Tiwari went on to say it is sad that at a time when people need the Kejriwal Government to perform administratively in Delhi to solve power and water problems, “we find it busy defending its corrupt deeds whose new sagas keep opening every day.”
Vijender Gupta said: “The Kejriwal government is in connivance with private operators and has allowed them to short purchase power.”
