Taking stock the last minute rush of applications for the online admissions process, Delhi University authorities have decided to extend the deadline for the application process by one day. The last day of the online application process was supposed to end on July 12 at 5 pm.

However, on Monday evening, the University’s official website updated the new development, stating that applicants who had issues with the admission process can now apply till July 13, i.e. Tuesday, 5 pm.

The unexpected last minute rush of applications filed by student was the prime reason behind the University’s extension of the deadline.

According to a member of the DU admission committee, the University’s website was receiving around 25 applications per minute.

“We knew that there would be a last minute rush. But there was a lot of traffic on our site and we decided that in the interest of students the deadline be extended,” the official said.

Many of the students had also been complaining about technical glitches in the Tab 2 option of the online application form, which was eventually rectified.

However, this led to several thousands of students applying on the website in the following days, including Monday.

Many students also had doubts about the basic guidelines. After the guidelines were clarified, their applications were also forwarded at the last minute. Another problem faced by applicants was the lack of receipt by the bank.

“Many of the students had the problem of bank receipt confirmation, but that information would be received 24 hours later. We have been listening to the issues faced by the students and in their interest, we decided to extend the deadline,” said Gurpreet Tuteja, deputy dean students welfare.
