20 real time monitoring stations to come up by Oct

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

With air pollution coupled with open burning of leaves, civic wastes still remaining a cause of concern despite use of clean fuel in public transport, the Delhi Government is going to install 20 Real Time Monitoring Stations (RTMS) in the national Capital by October this year to keep an eye on the air quality.

Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal chaired a high-level meeting on Monday at Raj Niwas to review the measures taken to tackle air pollution levels in Delhi and passed a number of directions to multiple agencies.

Baijal urged people to not burn dry leaves or garbages in open air and builders must control dust at construction sites.

Concerned officials of the Delhi government said as the process of tendering is drawing near so the aforesaid stations will be functional by October, 2017.

Apart from air pollution, increasing dust caused by construction activities have only deteriorated the air quality of city.

Though civic bodies, like the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), have pressed into service a few machines for mechanical sweeping of roads for dust control, these are not suffice to meet the requirement of entire Delhi.

NDMC currently has only five machines for cleaning major avenue roads of its areas, as the officials concerned said. However, all the three MCDS informed that they would receive the first lot of Mechanical Road Sweepers (MRS) by July 15.
