Around a lakh registered students failed to complete payment
NEW DELHI: “I couldn’t complete the application process as the Website was repeatedly showing server error whenever I proceeded to the payment gateway,” complained Mohit, a B.com aspirant who came to Delhi University’s admission help desk to enquire about other modes of paying the application fees.
Instead of receiving useful advice, the help desk recommended Mohit “to wait for another year.” His father suggested that there should have been an offline mode of payment too.
While the originally scheduled deadline for applications to undergraduate admissions was 5 pm on Monday, the University’s admission council had decided to extend the deadline till Tuesday 5 pm, keeping the concerns of students in mind regarding payment of fees due to server error.
Navneet Anand, aspiring for BA (Hons) History, claimed to have faced the same problem while paying the application fees.
Neelam from Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya, Uttam Nagar, wished to know about her chances of getting a seat in the Hindi Department as she scored only 65 per cent in her Class XII Board exams. She registered her application well before time and was facing the same problem during payment of the application fees.
Neelam was fortunate enough to get her payment done in the last minute of the last date. She had dashed to the help desk to confirm whether or not the payment was successful.
Officials at the help desk told Millennium Post that students had come with grievances only a few days ahead of the deadline. They said that students have been quite lethargic in completing the application process.
Meanwhile, Dr Gurpreet Tuteja, Deputy Dean of Students Welfare, claimed: “There was no server problem, the students have been provided enough time for submitting their complete application. But even then, they were not able to complete the payment. Over 2.21 lakh students completed their payment successfully, and it could be only a few who might be having problem.”
“It would be pertinent to mention that more than 3.22 lakh applications were received this year, of which 2.21 lakh applications made their way successfully to the payment gateway,” Tuteja added.
