Guest teachers in Delhi govt schools to be empanelled

- ROUSHAN ALI

NEW DELHI: In an attempt to provide jobs to qualified Delhiites as well as improving the conditions of government schools here, the Directorate of Education has initiated the process of empanelling qualified guest teachers.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the Education portfolio, has directed the Department to empanel those qualified youth who are capable of teaching in government schools, where there are vacancies of regular teachers.

“In addition to its responsibility of providing high-quality education to the children of Delhi, it is also the responsibility of the government to provide employment to the educated and qualified youth of this city,” Sisodia said.

“In this process of empanelment of guest teachers, the qualified youth of this city must be given a priority.

“The Chief Secretary is hereby directed to ensure that 85 per cent positions for guest teachers are reserved for candidates who either have done their Class XII from a school in Delhi or their undergraduate degree, diploma or teacher education degree from a college or a university in Delhi,” he added.

It may be mentioned that in order to facilitate the Delhi guest teachers, recently the Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government had announced that salaries of guest teachers in government schools will be raised by 50 per cent to 80 per cent under various categories. The move would benefit at least 17,000 teachers.
