NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police have arrested a cheat who used to pose himself as a Junior Engineer with Delhi Jal Board(djb) and lured people on the pretext of offering jobs in DJB.

The accused, Shrikant Pandey, was arrested from West Delhi on Wednesday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Vijay Kumar, the case came to light when the complainant in the case Onkar Singh reported that the accused had made contact with him a few weeks back and claimed that he was a junior engineer with the DJB.

“Onkar opened up to the accused and told him that his son was unemployed. Pandey told him that he had good relations with his boss and would get his son the job for Rs 6 lakh,” said the DCP.

The accused asked Onkar to pay the amount in two installments.

The victim paid Rs 3 lakh for the interview letter after which the accused started avoiding him.

Growing suspicious of the case, he lodged a police complaint at Kirti Nagar police station.

After the arrest of the accused, it was found that he primarily targets the lower income and unemployed people hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, who are in need of a government job.

The police, who suspect working of a gang behind the case, are now on the look-out for the absconding members of the gang.
