THREE BOOKIES HELD FOR BETTING ON INDIA-PAKISTAN MATCH

The Delhi Police have recovered 10 mobile phones fixed in briefcase used as dabba lines, 16 mobile phones, three laptops and two LCD'S from the hotel room

NEW DELHI: The most awaited match in the game of cricket over the decades has been India-pakistan playing against each other.

Fans from both the countries were waiting bated breath on Sunday when the two teams were gearing up to play in the ICC Champions Trophy in London's Oval Stadium.

As, people from both the nations were glued to the match, somewhere in a guest house in the Civil Lines posh area, three men showed were seen watching the match on their huge TV sets.

Their phones kept ringing throughout the match. A slight look at these men's enthusiasm in the match concludes to the fact that they were no ordinary fans but bookies.

These men were working hard to maintain the rates per ball and were feeding the data on their laptops.

Just then, few uninvited guests barged into their room.

The men dressed in uniform were none other than the Delhi Police Crime Branch officers who after tracking these accused for some time and finally rang the correct doorbell.

The three accused, Rajesh Kumar, Nitin Arora and Nitin Grover all residents of Delhi were arrested from the spot.

“During the Internatio­nal and Domestic Cricket matches these people run book and receive bets on the mobile phones from people known as ‘Punters' in betting language and give them rates of the match by ‘Dabba' (A live Mobile Phone Line which use to transmit the rate of the match and fluctuate from ball to ball) then these people record the bets in the laptops and at the end of the match,” said Madhur Verma.

They use to calculate the total bets, profit, and loss incurred by every Punter who betted during the match. They use to book a room in a hotel or guest house in a posh locality and keep on changing it with every match.

The police have recovered 10 mobile phones fixed in briefcase used as dabba lines, 16 mobile phones, three laptops and two LCD'S. Since they knew that the cops had a hawk eye on them, the accused kept shifting hotels. “We are looking for the other accused. They will soon be nabbed,” said police.
