Fake letter from Cabinet Secretariat goes viral, FIR filed
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Monday night registered a first information report (FIR) based on the complaint of an under secretary of Cabinet Secretariat against unknown persons for circulating a fake letter on social media.
According to the police, the complaint was filed at South Avenue police station in New Delhi.
In the complaint, the under secretary claimed that on Monday when he reached office, he started getting phone calls seeking clarification on the orders dated June 15.
The official told cops that people were calling him about the fake order, which were reportedly signed by him and issued by the Cabinet Secretariat, in the matter of digitisation of the land records and subsequent linking to Aadhaar card.
“I was told that the news was being circulated on social media through Whatsapp. The letter was neither issued by the office of Cabinet Secretariat and nor was it signed. The signature and the letter itself were forged,” said the complainant, who has not revealed his name.
Delhi Police have registered a case under sections 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 471 (using as genuine a forged [document or electronic record]), 465 (punishment for forgery) , 466 (forgery of record of Court or of public register, etc) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of Indian Panel Code against unknown persons for circulating the fake letter on social media.
