NEW DELHI: “Voices asked me to do the act and I did it,” said a 35-year-old Nepali man who chopped off the ears of his three-year-old daughter with a knife.

The three-year-old child is undergoing surgery at AIIMS after she was discharged from GTB Hospital with initial treatment.

The accused has been booked by the police.

When a three-year-old girl child was admitted to the GTB Hospital by her mother on Wednesday, the doctors immediately came to a conclusion that it wasn't a normal case as both her ears were chopped off.

Immediately, the doctors attended the little one who was bleeding profusely and gave her the initial treatment.

Soon, the police were informed.

Following this, the police team reached the spot and questioned the mother as to how the so-called accident took place.

Initially, the woman was reluctant but later she narrated to them the horrific incident.

The woman told police that her husband Amrit under the influence of hallucinations chopped off the ears of her daughter Bina.

Not believing the woman, the cops visited her house in Tahirpur where they met Amrit who told them that he hears ‘Voices'.

The girl was given initial treatment at GTB and then referred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences ( AIIMS ) for the surgery and other necessary treatments.

“The worst part is that the man did this horrific act when his daughter was awake. The girl started to bleed profusely after he chopped both her ears with a knife,” said an investigator.

Amrit works on temporary jobs like car washing and lives with his wife and daughter. Sources said that Amrit mar- ried his elder brother's wife after his death.

According to the accused, he kept hearing voices which directed him to go ahead with the inhuman act of chopping off his daughter's ears.

After this, he complied with the alleged directions.

Immediately his wife rushed Bina to the hospital where she underwent initial treatment. Only a medical examination will tell the truth about Amrit's alleged condition. DCP Shahdara Nupur Prasad said, “Prima facie it seems to be a case of a man hallucinating. However, we are investigating it further. Amrit has been arrested for attempt to murder under Section 307 of IPC.”
