267 more cops for 8 police stations in coastal districts

KOLKATA: In a crucial Cabinet meeting held at the state Secretaria­t on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directed the completion process of recruitmen­t in around 3,754 new posts at the earliest.

Steps have been taken to ensure safety and security of lakhs of tourists visiting Digha and Mandarmoni by creating 267 posts for eight coastal police stations.

After the Cabinet meeting, the state Finance minister Amit Mitra said: “A major decision has been taken in terms of recruitmen­t in today’s (Wednesday) Cabinet meeting. Nod has been given for creation of a total of 3,754 posts and the Chief Minister has given direction to complete the process of recruitmen­t in all the posts as early as possible.”

Mitra added: “Around 444 posts have been created only for the Health and Family Welfare department. It includes 187 posts for the new medical college in Raiganj. A total of 158 posts have been created for Ramrick Das Harlalka Hospital which is an annexure to Bangur Institute of Neuro Science. The Tufanganj Mental Health Hospital has been upgraded to 150 beds from 33 and today (Wednesday) 99 posts have been created for the hospital.”

Around 271 and 88 posts have been created for the Home and Hill Affairs department and Higher Education and Bio technology department. The Food and Supplies department have got 69 new posts. In addition to this, 139 posts have been created for other department­s. At the same time, decision has been taken to create around 93 posts for contractua­l engagement­s. In a bid to give more scope to women, posts have been created to recruit 2,700 lady constables.

Mitra said that this was another important step taken in the Cabinet meeting.

West Bengal Essential Commoditie­s Supply (WBECS) have got 43 new posts mainly for its offices in the districts.

It may be mentioned that footfall in Digha, Mandarmani and other tourist spots in the coastal parts of the state has gone up manifold with several initiative­s that the Mamata Banerjee government had taken up for overall developmen­t of those locations.

So with a rapid increase in tourist influx there round the year, the state government has also taken steps to ensure safety and security of the tourists. Keeping this in mind, the Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to create 267 posts for eight coastal police stations. At the same time, 88 teaching and non-teaching posts have also been created.

It may be mentioned that in all the previous Cabinet meetings, the decision to create at least a few thousand posts were taken up. Those measures have ensured job opportunit­ies for the youth and women in the state.
