Delayed reports put MCG takeover of private colonies on hold

- PIYUSH OHRIE

GURUGRAM: Despite the Chief Minister strict orders to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) for speeding the process of takeover of the private colonies, chances for the same are delayed as the reports are yet to come.

To study the feasibility for acquisition in the nine private colonies, the MCG had appointed special consultants for these projects.

However, more than one and a half month after the appointments, these consultants are yet to submit their reports.

Palam Vihar and Sun City are the two residential colonies whose report is likely to be submitted.

Earlier in May, MCG Chief V. Umashankar had mentioned that the colonies that are to acquired by the public body must expedite their maintenance works and fill in their infrastructural deficiencies.

Also, Umashankar had warned that those builders stating that those who fail to adhere to the standards will lose their licenses.

Taking cognisance of the delay, various RWA heads of DLF, Sushant Lok, and Sun City held a meeting to decide the future course of action.

“If the officials do not even take the orders of the Chief Minister seriously then what can one say? Because there is confusion over the process, the developer is continuing to charge high maintenance fee from the residents and not providing the adequate services,” said RS Rathee President Qutab Enclave Resident Welfare Association.

“It was a huge relief when the MCG Chief came heavily on private builders for not speeding the maintenance work and thereby delaying the handover of the colonies. Now the same plot is being played by the developers who do not want the takeover to happen. The residents must continue to exert pressure on the builders and MCG so that quick takeover can be initiated,” said Dhruv Bansal of Gurugram Citizen Council.
